Hi. It’s been a rough week; I’m in emergency mode. That’s not what this post is about, but it’s not irrelevant — our bodies are always the site of the emergency, in one way or another. The hit always lands here, even if it’s a political hit or financial or romantic or existential. It all ends up in and on our own square footage of self, and then, perversely, that self is expected to be not just desirable but desiring. Lol. (I know I shouldn’t use lol, as a proper writer, but it just feels so good. The dark humor of it. How it doesn’t mean laugh out loud, but is more what it sounds like, roll, as in eye roll. And saying lol requires a slight vomit contraction in the back of the throat to make all those L sounds, which really hits the nail on the head for me right now.)
Last month a woman named Paige Prince messaged me about the “body presentations” her Texas-based All Fours Group Chat had done recently. She offered to send me a video of herself doing one, so I could see what she was talking about.
