I subscribe and happily pay as a way to support my favorite artists and writers without expecting anything in return. I think it’s a beautiful and easy way to directly support the artists one loves. If you never post again, I’m fine with it. The chat and connections and community you’ve created and the new perspective you’ve offered me as a middle aged woman is worth a lifetime of monthly $6 payments.

I’m happy to give you money because you exist. You exist in a way I would like to and I would like more people to. Artists aren’t meant to be content machines. Stay real.

Internet platforms want us to be constantly posting, launching, sharing, commenting. And so now that is our expectation, that everyone we follow is always there, always on. The creative process doesn't work like that, it requires quiet, rest, retreat, daydreaming, distraction, NOT saying anything. Thanks for modeling that for your followers, many of whom are also creative women navigating these expectations which are very masculine, very capitalist, and very counter to the cyclical nature of women and creation. The value of something is about more than quantity and regularity, although algorithms have convinced us otherwise (because they exist to make tech company founders and investors richer).

> I used to see a great movie or performance or piece of art and be seized with determination to make my own great movie, performance, art. I still feel stirred up by other people’s work, but now I just kind of endure the pain of inspiration, feel it.

this is rearranging my brain cells, thank you. perpetually afflicted with the merciless urgency to turn all feelings into ideas and now i know i can be free, hallelujah.

What a wild take to expect constant excellence for $6/mo. You’re doing great, excellent even, and I hope you ignore the haters (which that comment definitely was birthed from) and keep doing what you’re doing.

I love hearing that you’re enjoying TM! I’ve been practicing since 2013 and completely relate to the way you describe it, it just becomes something your body craves.

David Lynch once said that one of his best meditations happened with a jackhammer going in the background. I’ve had a similar moment doing TM during a performance of Einstein on the Beach at BAM, I suddenly felt like my mantra was being sung back to me. It was such a wild reminder that none of the external noise really matters when you're diving within.

I enjoy all of your posts, thank you! ✨

Even if you never ever post, I'm happy to keep the subscription as a way to say thank you for being a part of our generation. For your stories and music videos, for the novels and the many (free) home screenings of Me and You and Everyone We Know in my apartment while I was still living in Moscow.

I appreciate the platform, the forum, the energy created by you holding this space. I feel it more as a club or better yet a spa. I like the members. All of them. I like to dip my toes in the water, take a plunge, get a full massage once in awhile. I am paying club dues. I support what you created. I have no expectations of what or how often you post. I am glad this, whatever “this” is, exists. I am grateful for it. It has helped me, inspired me, directed me, and caused me to reflect. I just need to get up and dance more but other than that I am very happy to have all these exchanges. I value other people’s contributions as much as yours, Miranda. I understand the life of an artist, a multimedia multi expression artist. I am one as well, so thanks for sharing and clarifying and opening up to more conversations always.

Jesus christ ! can’t quite believe someone wrote this- you are not a product - Anna Halprin made a piece doing everyday household tasks as she worked with somatic body movement , slowing down awareness and questioning why, where whom - she challenged so much of what we think actions are for and why ! She danced for a real reasons whilst others like Martha Graham were being aesthetic and mimicking choreographers ideas and values- she moved for purpose and social change - During one of her performances whilst performers were doing everyday tasks a member of the audience walked out shouting “I pay for this crap “ but in fact that was the whole point of the piece - “to be with” to notice your experience and expectations as the audience- Miranda don’t ever feel you need to deliver to us 😘 you could go to Tamalpa move your beautifullness with Daria Halprin in the mountains. I’m in UK and i’ve been when Anna was alive ❤️❤️❤️❤️ hope it’s ok to post this essay but I felt compelled to notice the power dynamics here of what money does in a transaction x

I subscribed (paid) because of this email. You deserve to be erratic. Your work is not valuable because of or born of adhering to a posting schedule. Honor your wild and share when ready. Grateful for the many gifts you’ve already given us. Excited for more when the time is right for you.

Like many others have said already, the $6 is nothing compared to the pieces of your life/your mind that you choose to share with us AND the wisdom that threads its way through the chat. After reading All Fours, I was surprised I had never considered an “open forum” for any rough spots I’ve gone through. Now, when I feel that something in my life is particularly challenging, your chat is one of the first places I turn to and it has always led to epiphanies and community. Also, as someone else who rebels against her own deadlines and routines, it feels more fun not knowing when you’ll post and then receiving it like a surprise gift 🥰

I'm so glad that I can comment on this wonderful piece, though I am embarrassed to admit I am not a $6 subscriber. I wish I was and my finger lingers over the Upgrade to Paid with each newsletter. Now that I have been practicing TM for over a year, I actually do pause before clicking and buying everything that finds it's way in front of my finger. Also the shame of unsubscribing is too much. I am an accidental paid subscriber to a long ago sex partner's newsletter and am not sure how to get out of it. Unsure if they know I ever subscribed, but wouldn't it be terrible if their first notification of my existence was the unsubscribe? It's only $5 - a relative bargain - but I can't. So please know that I love everything you write and never feel jilted by the time in between newsletters. And it's not because I've transcended the average barrage of anxious thoughts with my 20 minutes, 2x/day, but because it's the anticipation of what's to come that does it for me. Thank you.
